Survey Technician
(Dartmouth)
We are currently seeking a Survey Technician to our team of highly skilled professionals
in our Dartmouth office. The successful candidate will be responsible for survey fieldwork
on a wide range of surveying and engineering projects.
Responsibilities will include:

- Supporting the daily activities of a survey field crew
- Operating survey instruments and devices
- Cutting and monumentation of boundary lines
- Caring for and maintaining survey equipment
- Preparing detailed field notes of survey activities
- Successfully completed a recognized Geomatics Engineering Technology program
- Demonstrated willingness to learn is essential
- Ability to function within a team environment is essential
- Previous experience an asset
- Familiarity with municipal engineering, architectural and survey plans
- Familiarity with concepts of surfaces, contours, alignments, and profiles
- Knowledge of general survey procedures
- Familiarity with line creation by bearing/distance and work with curves based on
- coordinate geometry
- Excellent mathematical skills
- Attention to detail essential

Manager, Survey Division

As the Division Manager for Saint John Surveying, you will:
- Develop and maintain relationships with local private companies and government clients to gain feedback on the Survey Division’s service delivery and to identify client trends and opportunities for future business.
- Initiate daily, weekly and monthly reviews of projects in the Surveying Division, compare them to the established or expected objectives and initiate appropriate and timely measures to ensure we provide a quality product to our clients. Regularly recognize and acknowledge positive operating results and progress.
- Support and develop the competencies and skills of direct reports.
- Conduct both ad-hoc and regularly scheduled meetings with Division personnel to provide business and technical guidance, problem solving, workflow planning in the Division, client/project evaluation, business development initiatives, human resources management and project invoicing.
- Assign work and projects to direct reports based on technical capabilities, experience and availability.
- Monitor project schedules, scope changes and advise direct reports on budget and fee changes.
- Evaluate quality of services provided by Surveying Division personnel and identifies areas for improvement – initiates incremental changes directly and seeks approval from Regional Vice-President on significant changes.
- Lead and motivate Surveying Division staff to achieve and exceed revenue, margin, employee morale, growth and productivity goals and objectives.
- Eligible for membership with ANBLS is preferred;
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years of progressive experience in the survey industry;
- Minimum of 2 to 5 years of people management experience;
- Minimum of 2 to 5 years of business management experience;
- Attention to detail is essential;
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities essential;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Proven negotiating and influencing skills;
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, administer contracts and control budgets.
