Project Description
Bay Area Professional Centre purchased a parcel of land with the intention of developing a series of small commercial buildings. The area, characterized by high water table in a peat bog, makes sewage system design and construction challenging.

Terrain provided design services for the sewage system.

A meeting early in the process with the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour (NSDEL) identified two approaches: an on-site sewage disposal system (subject to wetland determination) and a sewage treatment plant. Each alternative offered challenges—the groundwater/peat conditions for the on-site system, and the discharge requirements for the sewage treatment plant.

Since timing was crucial for the project, the on-site system was pursued. A 295-foot mound was scaled down to a 120-foot mound to service the first building on the site. Provision has been made to enable expansion of the system to allow for full development of the site. Terrain provided site review and NSDEL certification for the construction.
