Bedford South Water System

Project Description
On behalf of several landowners, Terrain Group began the planning process for approximately 900 acres of undeveloped land between Highway 102 and the Bedford Highway. Clayton Developments has retained control of the various land parcels and is now the primary developer of this project. This area is adjacent to Crestview Subdivision in Bedford and extends towards Halifax to the Royale Hemlocks Subdivision. The development includes commercial, institutional, and residential units serviced with central sanitary, storm, and water distribution systems.

Services Provided
Clayton Developments retained Terrain to complete computer modelling of the proposed water distribution system, including adjacent existing developments and nearby proposed developments.

The proposed water system covered four pressure zones together with a storage tank, a fire and domestic water booster station, and pressure reducing stations.

The water system model included approximately 50,000 metres of proposed and existing watermain and was designed to provide domestic service and fire protection for the development.

Terrain also completed detailed design for the proposed booster station to deliver fire and domestic demands.

The station was designed for conversion to a pressure-reducing chamber at a later date.

Terrain interacted with the approval agency, Halifax Regional Water Commission, throughout the design process to address comments.

With the water system and booster station designed and modelled, detailed design of the streets and services could be completed.
