Gas Plant Site Screening Project
Project Description
The gas plant site screening project was undertaken during August and September of 1995 by a team including Terrain Group on behalf of Mobil Oil Canada Limited. This initial site screening project utilized existing data from a number of different sources including physical data such as:
- topographic
- geological information
- property mapping
- watershed boundaries and more, along with information related to:
- land ownership
- crown land identification
- any resource claim location such as mining and more.
Services Provided
The project team completed a community profile with all of the pertinent background information, structured the physical and social data to enable its evaluation with respect to a site selection process for the positioning of a natural gas processing plant. The data was used initially in its generalized form to identify potential areas within the Country Harbour, Nova Scotia, area. Following the identification of several generalized sites, the data was then evaluated in a more detailed process, bringing in additional information such as land values, probable costs, access, servicing requirements, actual pipeline routing, and other related site development issues. The project resulted in a report, both in hard copy and in digital form, enabling Mobil Oil Canada Limited to site the proposed gas plant for processing of Sable Offshore natural gas.
