Multiple School Sites

Project Description
Terrain Group, working with a design/build team including architectural members, construction contractors, and other disciplines, developed nine new schools throughout the province. The projects were all designed and constructed within extremely tight schedules which emphasized the need for a team approach.

Terrain has provided site civil services through Nova Scotia's ongoing school rebuilding program. This means Terrain has made a significant contribution to more than 20 school projects in total.

Services Provided
The sites, developed from typically undisturbed areas, incorporated issues such as bus access, car/drop-off access, and pedestrian access. In addition, the layouts were designed to accommodate local committees’ concerns such as sportsfield locations and other community used facilities. Terrain Group provided site survey, conceptual site design (in conjunction with the architectural members) and complete civil design services. Terrain Group completed detailed design for site grading and servicing, including stormwater management and erosion control measures. For several sites, Terrain Group designed elaborate systems for on-site wastewater disposal, working closely with the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour. Terrain Group also provided building layout, and inspection and testing services during construction. Upon project completion, Terrain Group prepared detailed as-built drawings required by the owner and as part of the takeover process.
