Royal Oaks Estates Sewage Pumping Stations

Project Description
Royal Oaks Estates is an 800 plus mixed unit residential development nestled around a championship caliber golf course designed by Mr. Reese Jones. The development, located in Moncton, New Brunswick, is a first for Atlantic Canada. It provides fully serviced building lots, condominiums, and townhouses in a dedicated golf community. A unique feature of the development is a series of large interconnected ponds which act as water hazards and an irrigation source for the golf course, and provides water frontage and stormwater detention storage for the residential development.

Services Provided
As part of the overall servicing design for the sewage pumping stations, Terrain Group carried out master planning, pre-design, design and construction review services for two sewage pumping stations. The development is restricted by downstream capacity limitations, permitting a maximum site discharge of only 200 igpm. Each pumping station was sized to meet these criteria. Large underground storage facilities were added to each station to handle inflows greater than the pump discharge rate.

Each station is fully equipped with an above-ground building housing the propane fuelled standby power plants, equipment controls and SCADA systems. An innovative interlock utilizing the SCADA system permits only one pumping station to operate at a time. The length of the time each station can run, while drawing down storage, is able to be adjusted to allow for balancing in the storage chambers. Forcemain valving is housed at grade in the generator building in one station. In the other station, an innovative approach creating a gas-tight wet well subfloor four feet below finished grade provides a clean and safe environment for accessing the forcemain valving.
