Shannex Nursing Home Facilities

Project Description
A major building program to replace existing long-term care facilities throughout the province resulted in the construction of three privately-owned extended care facilities across the province, totalling more than 600 beds.

The sites were located in Truro, Sydney River, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Site conditions ranged from clay-till to quartzite bedrock. The buildings evolved into neighbourhood clusters with multiple wings from a central building core.

Services Provided
Terrain Group provided site planning, permitting, grading and servicing services, topographical and legal surveying.

A rezoning process was required in Sydney River to permit the developments. The Truro and Halifax sites were developed under a Development Agreement. Our role included working with the client on the drafting of building layouts to suit the sites, locating the buildings on the sites and providing full municipal engineering and surveying services. Terrain Group worked closely with other design team members in coordinating the designs and identifying the many design considerations which accompany construction projects of this magnitude.
