Tantallon Market Superstore

Project Description
Loblaw Properties Limited consolidated land in Tantallon to construct a 68,000 square-foot store. The store was built to address a need in a previously untapped market. The site required on-site water and sewer servicing. Almost 100,000 cubic yards of fill was generated on site and was used to raise to the store site to achieve better street visibility. The entrance driveway required traffic lights, turning lanes, and a bridge across a watercourse. The site was able to use a precast concrete arch bridge to clear span the watercourse. Sewage treatment is supplied by a 3,500 imperial gallons per day (igpd) recirculating sand filter system.

Services Provided
Terrain Group provided master planning and site identification for the land acquisition. Topographic and legal survey services, site civil engineering design, and the sewage treatment system design were all completed by Terrain. Watercourse modelling for the arch bridge and permitting with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour were also completed by Terrain. Terrain undertook relocation of an established osprey nest and dealt with public concerns relating to building façade, landscaping, and community input.
