Union Street Sidewalk, Bedford

Project Description
As part of a subdivision development on an existing road, Union Street in Bedford, it was required that the Developer upgrade the existing street for approximately 1000 feet by adding a sidewalk, curb and gutter, and storm sewer to replace the existing roadside shoulder and ditch. This sidewalk was put in place to provide pedestrian access off the road from the proposed new subdivision (Nottingham Park). The sidewalk was designed by Terrain Group, approved by HRM staff, and constructed by Dexter Construction.

Services Provided
Terrain Group prepared a topographical survey of the entire length of this road, met with HRM staff to define the design parameters for the sidewalk, prepared plan and profile drawings with typical cross-sections, and designed a stormsewer system with catchbasins. Catchbasins were installed behind the right-of-way for drainage purposes. Terrain Group also met with residents along Union Street affected by this sidewalk to discuss their particular individual situation, whether it be driveway access or their front yard. This was done by sending each resident a letter with a copy of the plan of the proposed works, with a phone number such that each resident could contact us if they had any concerns. Terrain Group also provided site inspection and testing during the construction phase for the developer.
